Booklets are a more complex type of print production – a few or more separate sheets folded and stapled together. It is widely used for newsletters, magazines, annual reports, product catalogues, and college prospectus or for any purposes where the amount of information is greater than those in brochures.
Here are some basic principles that are unique to booklets:
- Printinghouse.ie classifies the booklets by their folded size, i.e. A4 folded in half, forms a 4 page A5 brochure, so two 4 page A5 Brochures stapled together form an 8 page A5 Booklets. A print must have at least 8 pages in order to be stapled and named a booklet.
- Booklets can be divided in two main types: those with the covers printed on heavier paper and those which are self-covered, where the cover paper is the same as the inside pages. For booklets with covers, a 32 page + cover booklet means 32 inside pages and 4 pages of cover, while in self-covered booklets a 32 page booklet means 28 inside pages and 4 pages of cover (of the same paper).
